Memoir Poem: Hindsight is Genius (haiku in 8 variations)

1)

New bride and groom pose

in front of the lake sparkling

in fairytale dreams.

2)

Marriage seems so rare

here in the Bay Area

no one gets married.

3)

Clever and jaded

We’re too sophisticated

Too cool for marriage.

4)

We never grew up

Cohabitate for decades

No need for divorce.

5)

Commitment phobic

50 year old bachelors

Perpetual fools.

6)

We wasted our youth

on immature narcissists

Old dudes on skateboards.

7)

It sounds like a joke

not a sad reality

Hindsight is genius.

8)

I wish I could leave

Sometimes I think and believe

Love’s waiting for me.
